This is a specialist Higher National Certificate (HNC) vocational programme, with a strong work-related emphasis. The course provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector and is nationally recognised by employers.

The course provides a through grounding in key concepts and practical skills required in the sector
You will study units including:
- Â Engineering Maths 1
- Design Manufacture
- Mechanical Science 1
- Thermofluids 1
- Professional Engineering Techniques
- Measurement System
You will learn through a mixture of lectures and practical sessions and will be assessed via coursework and examination.
You would usually need at least one of the following:
A relevant BTEC Level 3 profile of Merit/Merit
CC at A Level
CC grades at A Level plus C in Welsh Baccalaureate
Access to HE where you have achieved a Pass Diploma with 45 passes in an Engineering background
Plus: GCSE passes in three subjects at grade C or above to include Maths and English.
After successfully completing the course you will move on to employment in aeronautical, automotive or composites and related fields of engineering. You could also progress to further study with either the HND or engineering degrees.
You will usually need at least one of the following:
- A relevant BTEC Level 3 profile of Merit/Merit
- DD at A Level
- DE Grades at A Level plus C in Welsh Baccalaureate
- Access to HE where you have achieved a Pass Diploma wit 45 Passes
Plus GCSE passes in three subjects at grade C or above to include Maths and English Language (or equivalent). Mature students with relevant industry experiences who do not meet the academic qualifications will be be considered individually via interview.
From 2025, this course will be delivered at our new Hive centre. The multi million-pound building is designed to accommodate aspiring engineers.
